The St.George's Society of New York held their annual premier British social event at the beautiful space of 583 Park Avenue on May 28, 2013. Founded by English colonialists in 1770, the St. Georges Society provides financial assistance to the needy of British and Commonwealth descent living in the NYC area through social programs such as scholarship for high achieving students at Lehman College, a CUNY school.
This year's event honored Sir Winfried Bischoff, Chairman of LLoyds Banking Group and Simon Fuller, founder of American Idol. Guests attended the English Ball in beautiful gowns and suits, some even wearing traditional British kilts and medals of honor! British and non-British guests mingled to a night of cocktails, gourmet food, and dancing to finish off the night. The scholarship auction this year was hosted by Sotheby's. The English Ball has raised several million dollars in the past few years- serving it's original purpose offering "advice and relief" to British fellow countrymen in need.
